Mayhem Turbocharging

Picture
Mayhem Turbocharging was born from the Need to Help Pontiac owners get
interested in turbocharging. To show them exactly how reliable, useful, and most
of all POWERFUL these set ups can be.

Since starting my work as a moderator  (turbo69bird) on the website Pontiaczone.com many people have acheived great success using our products, services, and Advice to get thier turbocharged projects up and running, winning races, and making HUGE HP, all while keeping there cars completely drivable and most times pump gas freindly.  Many of the guys who have followed the basic recipe have proven that over 1000 HP is attainable for a reasonable amount of money.

When I first started out there were very few if any people turbocharging pontiacs in a way that was economical ( in general really) enough for the regular hobbiest to attain. Most people felt that you needed to
spend alot of money on an engine and turbo set up to be either reliable or powerful.

When I built my first Pontiac turbo project with budget in mind, using a Tv7101 turbo off a detroit deisel, a home welded carb hat, a home modified carberator, edelebrock performer intake, a 2 bolt main 428, with cast crank, and dead stock other than a larger exhaust valve set of 6x heads, I  set out to run in the 9 second zone!

My friend Chris and I started the build 4 days before a local drag track rental, We got the entire set up headers and all built for that event and ran a 10.00 off the trailer!

We then got greedy, turned up the boost and ran 122MPH in the 1/8th mile before splitting a cylinder ( most
important lesson learned) Dont get Boost greedy!

After rebuilding the engine as a 455 and adding a set of H beam CAT rods I ran the car into the 9.70s at 145 off the foot brake!  I was able to keep the car relaible with the K.I.S.S.  ( keep it simple Stupid ) rule.

I ran locked timing at 20 degrees and I ran the car fat in the 10.0 to 10.5 range on the AFR gauge.  People started to talk about and notice that not only was the car fast it was also reliable.  This was back in 2004, the car is fuel injected now with Accel Gen 7 DFI,  160 lb hr injectors, and set up with a similar tune running similar numbers. Its very relaible and built almost exactly the same but with a 455 2 bolt short block that has been in the car for about 5 years. It also gets 17 MPG on the street all of this is done on 93 octane fuel, even at the track.

Customer Feedback:  ( Jeff ), I BOUGHT A SET (67 thru 69 bird headers) FROM YOU, NO NEED TO TRIM THE FENDERS, THE RADIATOR SUPPORT  DOES NOT GET IN THE WAY, THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAD WAS WITH THE CONTROL ARM SHAFT  BEING TOO CLOSE TO THE HEADER, WHICH I TRIMMED A BIT, I AM
ALMOST DONE WITH MY  CAR...TAKE CARE MAN----JOSE
